Crowns & Bridges

Replace damaged teeth in a natural looking way with dental crowns and bridges

When would I need a crown?

A crown may be required for a variety of reasons. Most commonly, a tooth that has a large filling or that has been damaged by decay or trauma. Or it can be used if a tooth requires additional support and be used to anchor a dental bridge.

Many patients prefer porcelain crowns as these are similar in colour to dental enamel and blend in with your natural teeth.

What is the procedure to fit a crown?

At our dental clinic in Port Erin, the initial treatment procedure requires an appointment to assess and prepare the affected tooth. Then an impression is made to which is sent to a dental laboratory where skilled technicians handcraft a new crown to the required shape and colouration.

Once the dental crown has been created, it is ready for application and our dentists will invite you back for a second visit to fit and bond the new dental crown perfectly in place.

What Is a Dental Bridge?

Dental Bridges replace missing teeth by anchoring to one or two of the neighbouring teeth. The adjacent teeth are prepared, an impression is taken and then the new dental bridge is made at the laboratory. When ready, the bridge is placed onto the adjacent teeth filling the gap that becomes virtually unnoticeable.

There are two types of bridges

Maryland bridges – involve very little preparation of the neighbouring tooth making them the most popular bridge design these days. In adhesive bridges, the false tooth is bonded using a wing to the inside wall of one neighbouring tooth.

Conventional bridges – This involves preparing the two neighbouring teeth (abutments). The false tooth is then fused to the abutment crowns.

What is the procedure to fit a bridge?

We will clinically assess the neighbouring teeth and an X-ray taken to ensure the tooth/teeth roots are sound. We will then prepare the neighbouring teeth for the bridge and on your next visit we will fit the dental bridge.

Our dental clinic accepts both private and NHS patients.

We are also available to see dental emergencies on the same day!
